The meeting was preceded by a tasty BBQ set up and prepared by Donna and Phil Elena (with some help from their grandchildren) -- thank you to the Elena family!
Treasurer Phil Elena reported that dues collections were up last year while expenses had been mostly flat, putting us in a good place financially.
President Tom Moench reported on how we'd done meeting the priorities set out at last year's meeting and other Board goals:
- Concrete park benches added
- Slow, Children at Play sign placed in park drive
- Dedicated GCC accounting laptop purchased
- GCC Bylaws rewritten with attorney's recommended ammendments
- Gamblewoood Facebook group created (Join the group!)
- Improved pedestrian entrance to park
- Added barrier boulders at park to reduce off-roading
- Handicapped porta-potty and accessible placement
- Horseshoe pit installed at park
- Christmas lights contest participation and donations
- "Earth Day" community cleanup effort (pitch in next year!)
- Dumpster added to park for scheduled garbage pickup
- New baseball bases purchased, about to be installed
After review and discussion of the ammended Bylaws (written in plainer English and eliminating some conflicting lines) members present voted unanimously to adopt them, paving the way for a review of our (much more interesting) covenants this year. Our covenants are available on the Documents page here as a PDF, we ask that you review them and send us an email with ideas on how they might be improved.
A review of our most easterly park shelter (the one closest to the drive) and its condition, and the alternatives put forth by a local contractor for repairing or replacing it led to a resolution to spend as little of an approved $10,000 limit as possible to make repairs that make it structurally sounder and extend its life.
A motion was made and approved to have the Board invite the Sheriff's Department to a regular Board meeting to get information on setting up Block Watches in our neighborhood.
A motion was made and approved to add a slide or similar equipment to the east half of the play structure at the Border Way play park so that young children have a safe way down.
A motion was made and approved to create a plan involving members and a possible contractor to eradicate ivy and other noxious plants from the park before they spread further.
A suggestion was made to have the Board come up with a plan to involve community participation in the Gamblewood Facebook group. The Board will come up with a contest where members of the group will be included in a drawing for a prize to be determined.
After some discussion it was agreed that we will create an email list for those members who would like to opt out of paper mailings of newsletters. If you would like your name on the list please send an email to gamblewood.cc@gmail.com with the subject line "Email list paper opt out".
Three Board seats were filled. Tom Moench (who just completed his 4th year on the Board, the last 2 as President) was nominated and elected to return to the Board. Tom will be leaving Gamblewood during the coming year but will serve on the Board as long as he can. Beth Berglund was nominated and elected to the Board, as was Bob Green. Phil Elena and Tom Twigg continue on and round out the 5 seats. The new Board will meet on June 20th to work out positions for all and terms for new members.
Thanks to those who gave up a nice Saturday to attend. The coming year looks like a promising one for Gamblewood.
